Appcelerator Revamps Open Source Development Community
Appcelerator Developer Network Welcomes Users of Different Programming Languages and Creates the First Cross-Language RIA Widget Exchange
NEW YORK (AJAXWorld Conference & Expo) — March 19, 2008 Appcelerator, the leader in open source rich Internet application (RIA) development, today announced the launch of its new open source developer community, the Appcelerator Developer Network. “The response to our revamped developer community has been overwhelming,” said Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator. “In just a few days, over 500 new community members have signed on to the developer network, started making significant contributions and engaging in active collaboration around the development of rich Internet applications with Appcelerator. We expect this excitement to build through our outreach to attendees of AJAXWorld East this week.”
One key differentiator of Appcelerator is its embrace of all next-generation Web technologies. This is illustrated by Appcelerator’s support for users of different programming languages, including Java, PHP, Ruby, .NET, Python and Perl. The company has continued to see downloads of its product – and community activity – increase around all language interests and preferences.
New features in the Appcelerator Developer Network include:
- RIA Widget Exchange- the Appcelerator Developer Network features a new widget exchange where developers can find and build Appcelerator Widgets as well as integrate existing widgets from third-party libraries such as YUI and ExtJS. This feature enables developers to use any widgets together in the same application, creating the first cross-language RIA widget platform.
- New Product Downloads- the Appcelerator Developer Network includes the latest version of Appcelerator’s SDK and a new Eclipse-based IDE, the Appcelerator RIA Developer.
- Social Networking Features- the Appcelerator Developer Network features several new social networking features that enhance collaboration in the community. For example, it allows developers to easily join groups, create new groups, find new members and expand their networks.
- Quick-Start Guide- Appcelerator has created a new quick-start guide to help new members quickly get acclimated to the network and its products.
- Updated Reference Documentation- Appcelerator has updated its reference documentation to include new features and functionality added in its latest releases.
- New Product Demos- Appcelerator has added five new product demos to the Appcelerator Developer Network, including AppTacToe, an iPhone game developed in Appcelerator, and TimeTrac, a time-tracking system. Appcelerator demos can be accessed at http://www.appcelerator.org/demos.
